We at Aldi work closely with our colleagues in our International Corporate Responsibility team to ensure that Aldi CR policies have a widespread positive impact on the planet and our customers by delivering the greatest possible value.

Tackling Packaging

At the end of 2020, we achieved our goal to make all of our primary core range pulp-based packaging FSC or PEFC certified, or made from at least 70% recycled material. We have now updated our Plastic and Packaging pledges to make them even more ambitious.

Reducing Food and Operational Waste

We are committed to reducing our operational food waste by 50% by 2030. In 2021, we will introduce 75% reductions in stores, which will help this. However, we aim to redistribute as much food as possible through our partnership with FoodCloud.

We have committed to net zero deforestation by 2030 and net zero carbon emissions in our supply chain by 2040. We also have goals on palm oil, timber and pulp and other areas which you can read about here.

Reducing Operational Greenhouse Gas Emissions

We are continuing to reduce our operational emissions through energy consumption reduction, using more environmentally friendly refrigerants and procuring renewable electricity.

Improving the Nutritional Profile of our Products

We are constantly reformulating our products to improve the nutritional content and reduce salt, sugar, calories and saturated fat.

Transparent and Responsible Marketing

This includes our policies on nutrition labelling, checkouts and the use of cartoons on packaging.

Support For Customers Following Sustainable and Special Diets

We have a vast amount of products to support our customers to be healthier and more sustainable.

Our Commitment

We are committed to have 70% of our food and drink sales to come from healthier items by 2025.

  

Community

Giving back to the communities in which we operate by supporting charities and local causes.

Barnardos Ireland

In 2020 we announced our new partnership with Barnardos Ireland with the aim of raising €1 million for the charity by 2022. We will achieve this through staff, store, customer, and community fundraising initiatives.
