To date, over 60% of plastic drinks bottles and drinks cans are being collected for recycling through recyclable bins, which means that over 30% are not being collected, leading to increased littering. By placing a value on the drink containers, we are incentivising consumers to return their bottles and cans in order to get their deposit back and discourage littering.
Under the Government’s Deposit Return Scheme, all retailers are required to participate in the scheme.
Under the Government’s recently introduced Deposit Return Scheme, the price of certain drinks items, which are contained in plastic PET bottles or aluminium cans, have been increased by a 15 or 25 cent deposit fee, which can be reclaimed once the empty items have been returned to reverse ending machine.
It is 15c for the containers from 150ml to 500ml inclusive and 25c for the containers over 500ml to 3 liters inclusive.
Empty containers marked with the Re-turn logo can be returned to the reverse vending machine at all participating retailers, regardless of where the item was originally purchased.
