Ingredients
- 6 Fun sized Apples
- 300g Granulated Sugar
- 3 tbsp. Golden Syrup
- 1 tsp. Vinegar
- 6 x Lollypop sticks or wooden skewers
Method
- Place the apples into a large bowl and then cover with boiling water.
- Leave for 2 minutes then pour the water away and dry completely (the boiling water removes any wax from the apples which may have stopped the toffee coating from sticking).
- Remove any stalks from the apples and insert a lollypop stick or wooden skewer into each apple and place them on a tray lined with baking paper.
- Place the sugar and 75ml of water into a deep saucepan, do not stir, and cook for around 5 minutes on a medium heat or until the sugar has completely dissolved.
- Add the vinegar and golden syrup to the pan and stir. Increase the heat and bubble for 5-10 minutes until a deep caramel colour.
- To check if the toffee is done, carefully use a spoon to drop a little of the mixture into ice cold water – it should go rock hard. If it’s still soft keep bubbling until this is achieved.
- When ready, remove from the heat and quickly (but carefully!) dip the apples into the toffee then leave to set on the baking paper.
- When cool the toffee apples can be served immediately or stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
